That's the problem I have, I can't create all the VMnet required by the tutorial, I actually didn't try any further cause I couldn't do that, even with the powershell script. I have an i5 and 16gb of RAM, hope that is enough to run some simulations, at least some small ones.
To echo geoff. Luis - the virtual networks create just fine for me and I've run the same config as you I5, 16gb. Do VMNet 1 - 4 show as available? I had something similar when using the powershell if I recall.
Just try adding the adapters to the VM manually. Add four extra and set them to host only. That will put them on the same 'switch'. I think the point here is that VIRL sees this number of interfaces during install. The bare metal install also speaks of adding 'dummy' interfaces.
Try it, run the post install checks and run a simulation. I expect it will work fine as it did for me. You can get it working with the free version. They have a PowerShell script on their site to use in order to get your vnics setup correctly.
